Mike Wilhelm's first band, the Charlatans laid the ground rules for the Bay Area counterculture in the mid-'60s with a freaked out/acid-fueled mix of blues, old time country and jug band music, in a coup that was more about style (check out their gold rush cowboy get ups on their 1969 eponymous LP) and attitude than strict musical innovation. This 1976 album, recorded between Loose Gravel and the Flamin' Groovies, pays tribute to that same type of roots music with an album of songs like "Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor" and "Junko Partner," along with 3 originals.
