Neon are still one of the most influential and multi-faceted bands on the entire Italian new wave scene, able to flirt simultaneously with both electronica and industrial culture. Rituals, their first album, originally released on KinderGarten and distributed by Polygram in 1985, represented a crucial turning point in their career, and in some respects, their creative peak.

This vinyl reissue on Spittle arrives, therefore, in celebration of their return to the scene with numerous live performances, and with the hope of renewing interest in one of the most exciting seasons of the Italian underground. Rituals was a seminal album precisely for its ability to bring together the more martial rhythms of dance with the guitar-heavy sound of post-punk, a practice that soon would be legitimated by other bands on the scene like Chicago's Wax Trax, and the side projects of Ministry. Their reinterpretation of Jimi Hendrix's "Burning of the Midnight Lamp" still sounds like a lethal experiment.
