Dave Douglas And Keystone Spark Of Being: Expand on Vinyl LP

Bill Morrison unveiled their multimedia collaboration, Spark Of Being, at Stanford University. On film, it stands as a reinterpretation of that Frankenstein myth using new, archival, and distressed footage: the themes penned by Dave Douglas for his Grammy-nominated band Keystone achieve a new peak in the integration of electronics into jazz and improvised music.

As Douglas lightly flicks the switch, samples triggered by DJ Olive (Sonic Youth, Medeski, Martin & Wood) and lush electronic soundscapes from a highly modified Fender Rhodes conjure the sounds of the Creature. They mingle with the organic instruments, dueling trumpet and saxophone floating above the raw punch of Gene Lake's drumming, as it awakes for it's first steps. Released on Douglas' own Greenleaf Music label, Spark Of Being is now available on limited edition vinyl LP.
