Two veteran singer/songwriters Josh Joplin and Garrison Starr have teamed up here for a very unique and interesting project. Among the Oak & Ash (the name is borrowed from the title of an old folk song) faithfully render traditional ballads and folk tunes but with a contemporary American sound. Their energy and blend of electric and acoustic instrumentation is reminiscent of bands like Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span. With the exception of 2 originals (“Joseph Hillstrom” and “High, Low & Wide”) the source material on this debut album consists of tunes whose derivations range from the 1600’s through the early 20th Century. Produced by Brian Harrison and Among the Oak & Ash and pressed on 180g Vinyl.
