Donald Byrd Electric Byrd on Vinyl LP! 

It's clear that Donald Byrd was looking to move past his '60s hard bop material with his 1970 release Electric Byrd. Byrd plays with a large ensemble of reeds mixed with electric piano (Duke Pearson) and guitar (Wally Richardson) here which gives the album a cool, airy feel. Byrd's trumpet soars spacily around the arrangements, and lays down a haunting mix of grooves that hint at what was on the horizon for the trumpet master.
