Diana Ross' 1970 self-titled release was her debut as a solo artist and it served as the ultimate test as to see if the former Supremes frontwoman could hold her own without the talents of her former group. With the help of the songwriting-production team of Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson, the exception being the song "These Things Will Keep Me Loving You" which was produced by Johnny Bristol, her eponymous release became a great success and arguably the best full-length album Ross ever released. Highlighted by Ross' legendary cover of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" which peaked at number one and garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
