Regina Spektor’s 2004 release Soviet Kitsch, garnered praise from Time, Rolling Stone, Spin, Vanity Fair, The New York Times and many others. With her follow-up, Begin To Hope, the Russian-born, Bronx-bred singer/songwriter/pianist who emerged from the NYC café circuit, continues to expand her vision. Produced by David Kahne (The Strokes, Sublime, Sugar Ray), Spektor broadens her palette here with electric guitar, drum machines and seductive electronic loops, finding new canvases for her provocative vocal style. Hope for pop has arrived with Regina Spektor and this edition of Begin To Hope arrives with two tracks never before available on CD or vinyl (and “Better,” previously issued only as a 7" single).

Spektor emigrated from Moscow to America at age nine. The classically trained pianist played hundreds of shows in the Lower East Side anti-folk scene after graduating from college in New York. Soviet Kitsch, the third indie album from “the Björk of the Bronx,” as she has been called, instantly sold out everywhere, earning notice in major label circles. The album was then re-released by Sire.
