Ian Matthews If You Saw Thro' My Eyes on 180g Import LP Shortly after Matthews' Southern Comfort unexpectedly took Joni Mitchell's "Woodstock" to the top of the U.K. charts in 1970, Ian Matthews abruptly dissolved the band in favor of a solo career. The result was this excellent album released in 1971 for Vertigo featuring an all-star cast of players, including Fairport Convention's Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson, as well as Pink Floyd entourage members Andy Roberts and Tim Renwick, and celebrated keyboardist Keith Tippett. The collection of self-penned compositions fully solidified Matthews' reputation as a first rate singer/songwiter. Highlights include the beautiful title track and duet with Sandy Denny, "If You Saw Thro' My Eyes," "Hearts" and the epic "Southern Wind." Also features two covers by the late Greenwich Village folk singer Richard Farina with "Reno, Nevada" and a scathing criticism of Bob Dylan on "Morgan The Pirate." 180g gatefold edition with lyrics. |
