Louis XIV must have been one heck of a guy. Not only did he rule France for 72 years during the 17th and 18th centuries, he inspired four dudes from San Diego to name their garage/glam rock band after him.

Jason Hill (vocals, guitars, piano), Brian Karscig (vocal, guitars, piano), James Armbrust (bass) and Mark Maigaard (drums) release Slick Dogs And Ponies through Atlantic. Hill produced the album, just like he's overseen the group's two previous albums and two EPs. The band had more than 50 songs before narrowing them down to the 11 that made the record.

Louis XIV expanded their sonic palette by adding strings to every track. Hill and Karscig were responsible for most of the arrangements, while Beck's father, David Campbell, also lent a hand. The strings were recorded at Los Angeles' famed Capitol Studios.
