Originally released in 1970 on Blue Note, Alive! captures Grant Green during his first official live recording at Newark's Cliche Lounge with fine support from drummer Idris Muhammad and organist Ronnie Foster among others. The funk and R&B-tinged set includes a cover of Kool & the Gang's "Let the Music Take Your Mind" and Don Covay's "Sookie, Sookie" to go along with the Earl Neal Creque ballad "Time to Remember" and the A Tribe Called Quest sampled "Down Here on the Ground."
