Young Man Ideas Of Distance on LP
Young Man is the brainchild of one Colin Caulfield, conceived as a concept project about the passing of time, love and loss. Caulfield explored this concept while studying abroad in France and this international experience helped formulate his first recordings. Released in late 2010 to great acclaim, his first EP, Boy, is a psych-infused collection of songs with a tone setting tenderness that featured some of the most hopeful/haunting choruses heard that year. The EP set the stage for Caulfield to tackle his most ambitious project yet which is releasing 3 full lengths in the next 2 years. The first of these records, Ideas of Distance captures this. Laid out over 8 songs and recorded/produced by Caulfield himself, Ideas of Distance is an emotional roller coaster that takes the listener on quite a ride throughout its stark 40 minutes. The dark beauty can be seen in the constant building of first single "Nothing" while the ever changing moods are never more present than on the epic album closer "Felt" which leaves the listener with a sense of ending while moving onto the next record. The next record in the cycle is already being recorded with an impressive young band that includes Dylan Andrews (drums), Emmett Conway (guitar/vocals) and Joe Bailey (bass) which has backed Caulfied through several festivals and appearances including those with Local Natives, Yuck, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Cults and The Antlers.
