The Grateful Dead The History Of The Grateful Dead Volume 1 (Bear's Choice) on 180g LP from Audio Fidelity
Originally released in 1973, The History Of The Grateful Dead Volume 1 (Bear's Choice) was the group's last album with Warner Bros. Records. The live set is culled from The Grateful Dead's acclaimed performances at the Fillmore East in New York City on February 13-14, 1970 and is centered around material featuring Ron 'Pigpen McKernan. The album was intented to be the first release in a series of live recordings but Volume 2 never came to pass as the band went on to form their own label. The 7-song set, named after the Dead's soundman Owsley 'Bear' Stanley, includes a handful of cover songs of tracks such as Lightnin' Hopkins' "Katie Mae," Howlin' Wolf's "Smokestack Lightnin" and Otis Redding's "Hard to Handle" as well as the lone original "Black Peter." The Grateful Dead The History Of The Grateful Dead Volume 1 (Bear's Choice) Track Listing: 1. Katie Mae 2. Dark Hollow 3. I've Been All Around This World 4. Wake Up Little Susie 5. Black Peter 6. Smokestack Lightnin' 7. Hard To Handle |
