If you own a Digital Amplifier and you’ve lusted after a REL, you’ve probably read the dire warnings in REL owner manuals saying that RELs are incompatible with Digital Amplification. This is no longer the case! Sumiko, the North American importer of REL, has engineered this special cable which makes it safe to use a REL with a Digital Amplifier. Simply use the Digital Amp Cable instead of the stock REL cord; there’s no assembly, no effort, just plug and play!

Although the Digital Amplifier Cable looks similar to the stock cable that comes with every REL, there are a few changes. The most obvious is the male RCA connector soldered to the negative conductor of the cable. Less obvious is the extra weight in the Neutrik connector that plugs into the REL. The male RCA is to be plugged into an open input on the preamp section of the system, which stabilizes the ground plane for the Digital Amplifier. The positives are not changed and should be installed exactly the same way they would be with the stock REL cable. The extra weight in the Neutrik connector is a small series of resistors which change the input impedance of the REL making it more palatable to digital amplifiers. There’s no need to adjust or modify settings, the cable is ready to go right out of the box and does not impact the sonic clarity of the REL.
