Just how funky and swinging are you? What ever your funk/swing quotient after having Mr. Ramon Morris on your turntable you’ll be certain to achieve a new level of consciousness that can only be defined as ‘far out’. Ramon Morris is a fluid saxophonist with a taste for soulful licks and melodic lines. He recorded with Art Blakey and Woody Shaw. He now teaches at the Carnegie –Mellon in Pittsburgh USA. As a performer he deserves to have been more widely heard and recorded. This rare LP from Groove Merchant (1973) is an eight track set of tuneful, foot tappin’ jazz, funk and soul instrumentals that are reminiscent of what Deodarto was doing around the same time over at CTI. There is plenty of funky ‘walking’ bass and attractive electric piano. You’ll also hear some good trumpet support from Cecil Bridgewater and nice conga work from Tony Waters throughout. Sweet Sister Funk is an extremely listenable album. Mastered at Acoustec and pressed in Germany, this high quality release is not to be missed. 1. First Come, First Serve |
