1957's Lights Out finds an up and coming Jackie McLean in his second session as a leader with fine accompaniment from Donald Byrd (trumpet), Arthur Taylor (drums) and Doug (Watkins). Primarily hard bop in nature, the 6-song set also features blues undertones and the occasional shared improvisation by McLean and Byrd.
