The first three tracks on this 1954 Prestige release were recorded on November 13, 1953 and feature Thelonious Monk in a quintet with Sonny Rollins (tenor sax), Julius Watkins (French horn), Percy Heath (bass) and Willie Jones (drums). The remaining four cuts were recorded on May 11, 1954 and although they are credited to the Thelonious Monk Quintet, Monk is only joined by Frank Foster (piano), Ray Copeland (trumpet), Curlly Russell (bass) and Art Blakey (drums). The cover art for this unique collection was created by Andy Warhol in collaboration with Reid Miles.
