This excellent 1967 Impulse date from Archie Shepp is anchored by the hypnotic 18-minute title track which finds the tenor saxophonist exploring free jazz sounds with abandon while backed by a large group of African percussion that includes Beaver Harris, Norman Connor, Ed Blackwell, Frank Charles and Dennis Charles. The remainder of the set is rounded out by the waltz-inspired piece "You're What This Day Is All About" and the free bop numbers "Shazam" and "Sorry 'Bout That."
