JVC, with their marvelous XRCD24 mastering process brings us this jem of the Decca catalog George Solti conducting the Chicago Symphony. Written between 1911 and 1913 by Igor Stravinsky, this important composition was based upon a vision he had while writing another piece. The first performance of this work at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees in Paris provoked one of the most famous riots in musical history. This recording of the 'Rite of Spring' was made in Chicago's Medinah during three sessions on May 14, 1974. This recording captures the mood and essence that Stravinsky originally intended.
