Recorded on the heels of Santana's powerhouse Caravanserai and The Mahavishnu Orchestra's Birds of Fire, Love Devotion Surrender tore up the pop music charts upon release in 1972 and has been a jazz-fusion staple ever since. 

Comprised largely of wonderful instrumental jams, with each player exploring the depths of the spiritual paths they were following at the time, the record involves a Who's Who of accompanying musicians stemming from each guitarist's respective bands. Organist Larry Young provides the sonic gel, with Santana and McLaughlin riffing on John Coltrane classics and taking the saxophonist's ideas of finding the outer universe within musical expression to the next level.
