The Rolling Stones Exile On Main Street: Super Deluxe Edition On 2LP + 2CD + DVD + Book Greatest Rock n' Roll Album Remastered from the Original Tapes and Abetted With Ten Sought-After Previously Unreleased Tracks Includes New Documentary DVD and GORGEOUS 50-Page Collector's Book The Ultimate Stones Reissue: Exile Has NEVER Sounded or Looked Better Exquisite Package is All About the Celebration of a Landmark Record--And the Phenomenally Remastered Double LP Set on Both Vinyl and CD! Is there a better rock n' roll album that the The Rolling Stones' Exile on Main Street? Likely not, especially now that the 1972 classic is abetted with an additional 10 never-before-heard tracks and absolutely extraordinary sound. The double album is universally regarded as one of the five greatest albums in rock 'n' roll history and the most defining in the Stones' legendary catalog. Upon its release more than three decades ago, Exile on Main Street wove varying musical genres, instruments, and artists into a compelling masterpiece. This deluxe reissue features 10 tracks originally recorded during the Exile era and only recently discovered while working on the reissue project. The unearthed tracks include destined-to-be favorites and long-sought-after tunes "Plundered My Soul," "Dancing in the Light," "Following the River," and "Pass The Wine." Alternate versions of "Soul Survivor" and "Loving Cup" also are a part of the must-hear bonus material. To complement to the re-release of Exile on Main Street, a documentary, Stones in Exile, has been completed and included here after premiering on BBC. The documentary features rare, never-before-seen archival film, photos, and interviews as well as new conversations with the band and some of the artists they've influenced. Produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker John Battsek and directed by Stephen Kijak, Stones in Exile offers an uncommon glimpse into the lives of the band as they created one of music's all-time great records. The original 18-track double-album was famously recorded in various stages at multiple locations, including Olympic Studios in London, Keith Richards' mansion Nellcote in France, and in Los Angeles, where the literal 'Main Street' influenced the album's title. The atypical circumstances surrounding the recording process greatly affected the album's outcome, itself highly reflective and influenced by the socio-political turbulence that marked the late 60s and early 70s. As detected throughout Exile, The Stones nixed the flower-child era's influences and directed their creative process with an edgier, excessive, "more is more" approach. Consequently, Exile reveals a sprawling mix of genres peppered with blues, country, R&B, and gospel, all mixed with lyrics that fervently demand release and liberation. The album also called on an electric array of talent, including Dr. John, the late Billy Preston, and pianist Nicky Hopkins. Guitarist Mick Taylor, who replaced Brian Jones in the band shortly before the latter died in 1969, brings his fervent intensity and bluesy elegance to the table to go along with Richards' landmark riffs. Due to the confluence of chemistry, personnel, circumstances, and songs, there is no other album in history that sounds like Exile on Main Street. This super deluxe package includes a double vinyl LP set, a 30-minute documentary DVD with footage from Cocksucker Blues, Ladies and Gentlemen… the Rolling Stones, and Stones in Exile, and an absolutely gorgeous 50-page collector's book with photos from the Exile era. The 10 unreleased tracks were produced by Jimmy Miller, The Glimmer Twins, and Don Was. And of course, Exile itself has been remastered from the original tapes, and sounds truly unbelievable in analog. You need to hear it to believe it. Hands-down, the must-own reissue of 2010. |
