VPI - ARIES 3 TURNTABLE & JMW10.5i TONEARM
VPI must have left an original Aries and an HRX Reference Table in a room alone overnight!
The new VPI Aries 3 is the ultimate revision of the Aries! The chassis has been modeled after the Triple-Plinth Design of the HRX and its absolutely gorgeous! With two layers of 5/8” Acrylic and a 5/8” thick layer of aluminum, the Aries 3 is dead quiet and completely inert. The platter and bearing are sourced form the HRX as well. The big news: VPI’s new JMW-10.5i Tonearm has been upgraded as well! This arm allows VTA adjustment while playing any LP for the ultimate in set-up control. The table has complete control over the bottom end, a very liquid mid-band and an extremely extended top-end. This is a statement table by any measurement!
Take the Aries 3 to the Next Level! Add on a VPI SDS for perfect accurate speed stability, the VPI Outer Ring Clamp and the HRX Stainless Steel Center Weight will keep every LP you play perfectly flat on the platter.
The new JMW-10.5i tonearm: The newest arm from VPI has been heavily upgraded! Nordost Valhalla Wiring, VPI’s new Anti-Skate technology and a heavier, better damped armtube are all part of the picture. A new base and dog leg were designed to incorporate the full sized azimuth rings of the 12.6 and 9 Signature Tonearms onto the 10.5i. This results in a lower center of gravity, greater stability, lower distortion, and a great cross between the sweetness of the 12.6 and the speed and impact of the 9 Signature. As always, with the JMW-10 series you can do VTA on the fly for the ultimate in setup control.
The 1.75" thick platter is comprised of clear or black acrylic and incorporates an inverted bearing similar to that used in the HR-X. The bearing shaft is 60 Rockwell hardness, ground and polished, and the platter rotates on a Teflon/Delrin composite thrust plate for Ultra Low Noise.
The solid black aluminum motor assembly weighs in at 10 pounds and contains a low noise, 300-RPM Synchronous Motor with Delrin motor pulley. This is a very low noise system as the fundamental resonance of the motor is at 5 Hertz. Well below the audibility of any phono cartridge.
For improved stability and damping, the Aries 3 chassis is made from a sandwich of 2 layers or 5/8” polished black acrylic top and bottom with a 5/8” thick aluminum center section, exactly like the HR-X chassis design. This makes for a very inert, dead quiet, and extremely stable platform for the platter and tonearm to sit on. The plinth is supported by four aluminum cones, the bottoms of which are composed of hardened steel balls. The cone suspension when applied to the laminated HR-X type chassis provides outstanding rigidity and a wealth of information from the record grooves. They are adjustable for leveling.
"…A very potent turntable/arm combination - stylish, solidly engineered, beautifully finished, plus easy to operate and set-up. The sound is clean, open and natural…there's all the detail and clarity one could wish for…It's a precision instrument, yet doesn't need cossetting, and it should provide consistent quality sound over a long working life span. I'm impressed - I think you will be too!" —Jimmy Hughes, Hi FI +
“As another turntable in the marketplace, the Aries helps to confirm the enduring popularity of the vinyl medium…it can hold its head up high as a well-behaved, good-sounding deck that is well up to getting maximum musical enjoyment from records. And for many, this American Beauty will look just the part too.” —Hi Fi News & Record Review
