The design principles incorporated in the Volvere are exactly the same as those of the flagship Acutus: remove stylus-borne vibration from the record, remove ultra-low mechanical noise, sustain rigidity, isolate the structure of the table, and ensure complete speed stability. AVID determined a less expensive turntable could be created by manipulating the portions of the Acutus having the smallest effect on sound quality. The most important aspect of playing a record is ensuring that the stylus is capturing all the information contained within grooves of the record. If the record is vibrates, the stylus is missing crucial information and creating distortion. The Volvere utilizes an 11 lb. platter with a top surface of NBR/cork providing a rigid and stable environment for the grooves to be “read.” The Volvere has a unique clamp that automatically secures the record to the main bearing and carefully shapes the record to the mat. A simple twist of the clamp is all it takes to understand the definition of precision machining! Any energy created by the record is directly transferred to the same inverted bearing used in the Acutus. The inverted bearing, made from a sapphire cup and tungsten ball, is only 4mm from the record, providing short and rapid energy transfer giving the listener lightning-fast transients and dynamics. The sub-chassis incorporates the three-fold cast aluminum structure that becomes the conduit for the dissipation of any vibration from the platter or tone arm. Once any vibration reaches the inverted bearing, the sub-chassis immediately transfers this energy to the frequency adjustable suspension. As in the Acutus, the three extension springs can be adjusted to provide absolute even weight distribution of the platter, sub-chassis, and tone arm. The Volvere also includes horizontal damping rings that keep the sub-chassis (and platter) the same distance from the motor for speed precision. The ‘table is finalized with a modified motor directly mounted to the base unit maintaining constant alignment with the platter and a split-phase quartz locked power supply attached to the underside of the base. The power supply offers simple electronic speed change from 33 1/3 to 45 RPM along with an IEC plug for added upgradeability. This stunning turntable is built for speed; wait until you hear it!
