The Dynavector 20xL is an Incredible Sounding Cartridge!

Michael Fremer of Stereophile praised the Dynavector 20x moving coil cartridge citing its smooth tonal balance and very good dynamics as being unusual at this price point. The 20X is one of our favorite cartridges, it sounds great, has great resolution with a slightly forgiving tonal balance, is exciting to listen to and isn't outrageously priced.  At 9.1 grams and medium compliance, the 20x mates well with most popular tonearms.

The Dynavector 20x is available in two outputs, a High Output (2.5mV) and a Low Output (0.4mV).  This version, the Low Output version, requires a MC capable phono stage preferably with 58dB+ of gain, the High Output version can be used on most MM phono stages.

Dynavector's crucial breakthrough was to design a coil winding machine capable of working with extremely fine wire to give a high output to mass ratio. The design draws from Dynavector's top end XX-II. The 20x has a similar body shape to the XX-II and shares the same aluminum alloy body material. This alloy is a rigid and non-resonant platform for the cartridge motor and also makes it easy to get a firm and secure mounting to the tonearm. Dynavector selected a 6mm hard aluminum pipe cantilever with a PE (perfect elliptical) nude diamond stylus for the 20x.  This combination offers a 

The 20x also features two unique Dynavector benefits: flux damping and softened magnetism. The high-energy magnets used in modern moving coil cartridges, can create excess magnetic flux, affecting tonal balance and introducing distortion.  Flux damping and softened magnetism are proprietary Dynavector technologies that eliminate these distortions giving the 20x a remarkably pure sound.
