The ELS-303 combines the sonic strengths of the award wining ELS-3 bookshelf speaker with a custom engineered bass woofer. This 2 ½ way floor-standing speaker provides the kind of full frequency sound only a floor standing speaker can offer.

The ELS-303 makes use of the ultra-sweet Epos Swift Tweeter and silky smooth Lightning 130 Midrange Driver with a re-tuned crossover for improved midrange linearity.  For the bottom octaves, Epos developed a new Lightning 130 Woofer, based upon the same chassis as the Lightning 130 midrange, but with a beefier magnet and voice-coil structure. The woofer is coupled to the rest of the speaker in a 2 ½ way alignment, rolling off at 100Hz. Combined with the gorgeous midrange and silky smooth tweeter, this gives the ELS-303 added power handling and a richer tonal balance, while keeping a very slim profile.

The ELS-303's thick MDF cabinet has the same footprint as the outstanding ELS-3 but now the height is 33 ½”, including the plinth but not spikes. This extra height brings the tweeter up to an optimum listening height for a seated listener. Unusual for a speaker in this price range, the midrange section is not ported. By sealing the midrange woofer in its own internal sub-cabinet, Epos achieved greater transient response and also a more perfect integration with the tweeter.  The bass woofer section is braced and sealed off from the midrange section and with a port tuned to 47Hz, allowing the ELS-303 to achieve low frequency response down to a very respectable 43Hz, quite good for a speaker with such a small footprint.

Epos has enabled Bi-wiring/Bi-amping on the ELS-303, two pairs of gold plated binding posts grace the rear of each speaker allowing the midrange and tweeter section to be driven independently of the bass driver.  Metal links join the upper and lower sections together and can be removed by the user to allow bi-wiring or with careful amp selection, bi-amping!
