The Kontrapunkt A is a Stereophile Class B Recommended Cartridge

Ortofon's entry to the Kontrapunkt series, the Kontrapunkt A is a silky smooth, extended cartridge.  The perfect choice for those who've been rattled to death by over-enthusiastic ultra-detailed MC cartridges, the Kontrapunkt A offers a more relaxed perspective.  Excellent resolution and an even tonal balance with good rich bass response make the Kontrapunkt A compatible with most types of music, although those who like to rock may want to look elsewhere.

The internal wiring is 6-nines pure silver, giving this Kontrapunkt a greater sonic palette from which to paint an image.  The threaded stainless steel body all but eliminates vibration and the nude fine-line stylus sinks deep into the grooves extracting maximum information.  The Kontrapunkt A is a master of imaging, floating a greatly detailed and spacious image.

Fairly heavy at 10Gms, this is not a cartridge for a budget arm and the relatively low output of only 0.45mV and preferred 100Ohm loading means the Kontrapunkt A requires a powerful and adjustable MC phono stage.

Michael Fremer of Stereophile said the Kontrapunkt A offers "rich extended bass that is well controlled and tuneful as hell. Even at twice the price this is a superbly musical performer and a genuine bargain."
