Jazz bassist Brian Bromberg's chops have always been impressive.  What grabs us here is that from the very first note is how good his acoustic bass sounds.  The instrument intself is a 300-year-old Matteo Guersam from Milan.  It's tremendously rich and fills the room, particularly when he's playing solo as he does on two showcases, ''The Star-Spangled Banner'' and The Beatles' ''Come Together''.  The set list is mostly standards adventuresomely arranged for a duo or trio but still definitely straight-ahead.  His exquisite accompanists are pianist Randy Waldman and drummer David Bromberg. 

Bromberg joined the Stan Getz Quintet when he was only 19 and since then has recorded and played with Dianna Krall, Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Horace Silver, Sarah Vaughan, Joe Sample, Jonathan Butler, Joshua Redman, Dave Grusin, and Shirley Horn. As an artis and producer he's garnered seven Top 10 hits (including two chart toppers) in R&R. We consider this his finest moment so far.
