Recorded live at A.C. Piano Craft Recital Hall in Midtown Manhattan using Chesky Records’ signature recording technology.  The listener is placed at the back of the room and the 'you are there' feel prevades- and this was definitely a lively scene.  Avante-garde jazz-rock guitarist James 'Blood' Ulmer plays close to a tradiitonal gospel-blues style but the main attraction here are the vocals of Queen Esther, totally testifying.  The pair penned most of the originals.  The 'grass' part of the title comes from the fiddle of Charlie Burnham- and the backporch approach of the arrangements.  Rounding out the live session are bassist Mark Peterson and drummer Mark Peterson.  Liner notes by Chip Stern.
