The music of Johannes Brahms held a special place in the repertoire of Arthur Rubinstein, who recorded many of the great German composer's smaller keyboard works, and twice made RCA Victor records of his third and final piano sonata. This recording of the sonata was made in December 1959 in New York's American Academy of Arts and Letters, and shows the pianist at the height of his powers, revealing the youthful vigor of the composer, and the ever youthful vigor of Rubinstein himself.
