MoFi uncovers a diamond in the rough! This sax summit from the Concord catalog, recorded in January of 1986, is an audiophile delight. Mobile Fidelity has produced one of the most natural sounding jazz releases in their history. Thankfully the original analog master tape was in perfect condition when MoFi got a hold of it. The original 30ips master certainly didn't hurt their chances of producing a stunning release. Hear Gerry Mulligan's baritone front left and Scott Hamilton's tenor front right, as if they are in the room with you. The great rhythm section stands behind the soloists with bass dead center in the soundfield. The piano is extremely well recorded and Grady Tate's drumming is absolutely fabulous. But on Soft Lights & Sweet Music, it's the horn players who really get to shine. We highly recommend this title to anyone with a love of great, cool jazz and the uninitiated will find this album very accessible, as well.
