The brilliantly quirky movie certainly brought deserved attention to this collection of American roots music compiled by T Bone Burnett, long known for his superbly clean productions. For this album of original recordings he brought together traditional songs and some of bluegrass, country, and folk's greatest voices and instrumentalists: Alison Krauss, Ralph Stanley, Gillian Welch, Emmylou Harris, and many more. Almost all the performances feature sparse acoustic accompaniment,.some are even a capella, and all are absolutely stunning. Ultimately, this became one of the year's best-selling albums and won the Grammy for Album of The Year.
