Recorded in NYC in 1971 this was BlueNote’s first venture into the world of the soundtrack, more specifically, a Blaxploitation soundtrack. Grant Green heads up a big band of top session guys like Cornell Dupree (organ) and Grady Tate(drums). The music is by definition episodic and varied in tempo and mood according to the dictates of the movie. Grant plays with his usual taste and economy adding a lot of jazz feeling to what is otherwise a pretty funky affair. ‘The Final Comedown’ is an inspired choice and an enjoyable one at that. Record cut at RTI and Germany making for a very high quality product indeed.
