PIPES RHODE ISLAND - RHODE ISLAND'S PIPE ORGAN PAST AND PRESENT (CD)

Pipes Rhode Island - The Ultimate Demo Disc for Lovers of Organ Music

“I was so captivated by the ultra-deep, window-rattling, sustained organ-pedal chords I heard that I’ve since used this recording for every one of my equipment reviews. The sonic impact of this recording is tremendous: crushing, thunderous, tight deep-bass notes shudder the air and rattle loose objects!”
– Larry Greenhill, Stereophile R2D4 (Record to Die For – February, 2008)

The Rhode Island Chapter of the American Guild of Organists announces the release of Pipes Rhode Island, the first-ever recording documenting many of the historical and significant pipe organs of Rhode Island.

As one of the original 13 Colonies and the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution, The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations enjoys a rich and diverse heritage of historical and significant pipe organs. This collection of all-new recordings features sixteen compositions from a wide variety of periods and styles, played upon eleven remarkable organs by some of Rhode Island’s finest musicians.

Highlights include recordings of five organs on the East Side of Providence (Sayles Hall, Brown University; S. Stephen’s Church in Providence; Church of Christ, Scientist; Central Congregational Church; and The First Baptist Church in America); the famous C.B. Fisk organ at Christ Church Westerly; the Fratelli Ruffatti at Our Lady of Grace in Johnston; and the Holtkamp at Providence College.

Stephen T. Martorella, organist at The First Baptist Church in America and Producer of this project, enthused, “Rhode Island is home to a remarkable variety of organs, from English Renaissance through American Eclectic to Italian, French and German models. We are thrilled that organ lovers not only in New England but all over the world will hear eleven different Rhode Island organs played by some exceptional artists.”

Pipes Rhode Island features superlative graphic design, based upon the famous Blaskowitz Chart of 1777, which was prepared by the British for military use during the American Revolution. Recording was assisted by John Marks, of John Marks Records, known nationally and internationally for the high technical and artistic quality of his work.
