Drive-By Truckers are a veteran rock band based in Athens, Georgia, though three members (Mike Cooley, Patterson Hood, and Shonna Tucker) originally hail from The Shoals region of Northern Alabama. Distinguished by Southern influences, soulful intensity, and raw energy, the group's engaging music is characteristically unique due to its use of three guitars (as well as bass and drums), country accents, and cultural reflectiveness.

Poignant, honest, and descriptive, the Truckers' character-rich lyrics and emotional stories often revolve around hard-luck decisions, rural tragedies, small-town survival, frayed relationships, and personal struggles. They are indisputably one of the best bands to emerge in decades, and haven't yet made anything less than an above-average album.

Lovingly remastered and reissued by New West on 180-gram LP, this is a rare chance to own a majority of the band's phenomenal catalog on vinyl. From the evocative Wes Freed artwork to the astounding sonics, you will not be disppointed.

"The Dirty South almost sounds like different mixes even though [they¹re]
not. I like the sound of vinyl better anyway. We¹d catch some flak from time
to time about the way our records would sound. People say: 'Your records
don¹t sound right.' And I'd say, 'What do you mean? Our records sound very
right to me.' They may not sound like records in 1998 sound, but I didn¹t
like the way records were sounding in 1998. But they sounded to me like
records sounded in 1973. And I liked the way records sounded then. I like
the way records sounded when it tended to be 16 tracks and two-inch analog
instead of a lot of heavy compression on everything. Instead, everything is
loose and airy. You can hear the drummer grunting in the background."
-DBT vocalist/guitarist Patterson Hood talking to Bob Gendron about the band's vinyl reissues in The Absolute Sound, April 2008
