The singular singer and pianist Patricia Barber last put her distinct stamp on a collection of standards with her acclaimed 2000 release Nightclub. Now and on the heels of Mythologies, her ambitious song cycle based on Greek mythology, Barber returns with The Cole Porter Mix, a stunning celebration of the great Cole Porter’s songbook. The album features Barber’s longtime quartet and special guest saxophonist Chris Potter on such Porter classics as "I Get a Kick out of You," "Just One of Those Things," "What Is This Thing Called Love" and "Miss Otis Regrets." With The Cole Porter Mix, Patricia Barber adds one more remarkable chapter to her oeuvre, continuing to explore intriguing improvisational terrain at the vanguard of female jazz vocalists and instrumentalists.
