AMUSEMENT PARKS ON FIRE - AMUSEMENT PARKS ON FIRE (LP)

Amusement Parks On Fire Amusement Parks On Fire On Vinyl LP

While some bands' flames burn so brightly that they are heading back into the shadows by the time their debut album hits the racks, others take a different route. Amusement Parks On Fire have been whipping up a quiet storm since the release of their acclaimed self-titled debut album which is a story in itself.

Amusement Parks On Fire got its beginning in the imagination of Nottingham teenager Michael Feerick. Playing nearly all of the instruments himself (guitars, bass, drums, vocals) he recorded the debut album in a local studio, drawing on the spirit of sonic adventure shared by such acts as The Pixies, Sigur Ros and My Bloody Valentine. Recorded as a continuous piece, the album shows a musical range and ambition, that is all the more remarkable for knowing it is the work of a lone teenager.

The recordings found their way to Portishead's Geoff Barrow, who quietly released the album on his Invada label in July of 2004. The first single from the album "Venus In Cancer" quickly found favor with the likes of Zane Lowe, John Peel and Steve Lamacq. Offers of gigs began flooding in, and the time had come to build a band which could do justice to the recordings. Dan Knowles was drafted in as guitarist, joined by Jez Cox on bass and Peter Dale on drums. Their first gig was in January 2005 at Nottingham's Social Club.
