REL's B2 Is The Subwoofer For Those Who Hate Subwoofers! 

Lightning fast, with crisp attack, excellent dynamic range, deep extension and extremely articulate, the B2 is the perfect woofer to mate with speakers that traditionally are not compatible with low-frequency reinforcement.  Electrostatic panel, planar magnetic, ultra-high resolution mini monitors, the REL B2 is your subwoofer.  The B2 mates best with speakers that are ultra-fast, with great bass articulation, which require assistance to achieve deep extension and also require a lighter touch to not upset their tonal balance. The B2 offers a deft, feather light integration, increasing both dynamic range and low frequency extension without injecting its own personality into the mix.

Looking just at the specifications, it might seem that the B2 is merely a slightly larger B3; however, the two woofers couldn't sound less alike.  Whereas the B3 sounds more rounded, more emotional; the B2 is more reserved with incrementally greater output and extension but with greater speed, crispness of attack, and dynamics.

Much of the personality of the B2 comes from its woofer, different than the 10" woofer used in the B3, with a stiffer basket and stronger magnetic assembly for greater control.  The amplifier, a high-current 300W Class A/B design was created specifically to mate to this woofer, ensuring, as the British put it, "adequate" performance.  The cabinet is slightly larger to accommodate the greater internal pressures and the 4" diameter port design is also revised for increased extension.
