Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) Conductors
CV-8 uses a carefully finessed combination of Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC) and extremely high purity Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) conductors. All conductors are solid, which prevents strand interaction, a major source of distortion. Surface quality is critical because a conductor can be considered as a rail-guide for both the electric fields within a conductor, and for the magnetic fields outside the conductor. The astonishingly smooth and pure Perfect-Surface eliminates harshness and greatly increases clarity compared to OFHC, OCC, 8N and other coppers. Extremely high-purity PSC+ further minimizes distortion caused by grain boundaries, which exist within any metal conductor.
Spread Spectrum Technology (SST)
When it comes to speaker wire, no single solid-core conductor can simultaneously sound good and convey adequate power from the amplifier. A single large conductor swallows up high frequencies and a single small conductor can’t properly deliver gobs of bass current, however, an array of multiple, differently-sized solid-core conductors spread the reproduced spectrum, further increasing bandwidth and power handling, creating a sum which is far greater than any individual conductor size might suggest.
Circular Array Geometry
All conductors in a cable interact with each other; the trick is to make sure they all play nicely together. The placement of the conductors within the cable (and ensuring that they maintain their spacing even when bent or twisted) is crucial. Proper geometry improves conductivity, reduces noise, and minimizes signal loss over the long run. CV-8’s Circular Array Geometry defines this relationship by alternating positive and negative solid-core conductors around a center core. This circular-spiral construction allows CV-8 to deliver significantly better dynamic contrast and clarity than if the same conductors were run parallel or in multiple twisted pairs.
Dielectric Bias System (DBS)
DBS is an Audioquest patented system which does some pretty extraordinary things to the electrical properties of the cable yet operates completely outside the signal path. DBS simultaneously eliminates the “Dielectric Effect” as well as external interference.
The Dielectric Effect, simply put, is a form of phase distortion caused by the tendency of insulation material to randomly and unpredictably absorb and then release the electrical energy passing through the conductors. This causes smearing of fine detail and distortion of tonal balance. DBS eliminates this distortion by using a high voltage potential from the battery packs to electrically saturate the insulating material. The difference is shocking (pardon the pun), bass extends deeper, voices become fleshed out and every instrument achieves a truly jaw-dropping level of realism.
While the positive pole of the DBS pack creates the high-voltage potential inside the cable, the negative pole of the DBS pack is connected to a shield which runs the length of the cable, creating a virtual vacuum for external interference; energy that strikes this shield is instantly and completely drained into the negative portion of the battery creating ultra-black backgrounds, greatly enhancing resolution and dynamic range.
