Description

Continuous 150Wpc Output, Headphone Amp, MM Phono Preamplifier, and Expandable Modular Construction: NAD C 388 Integrated Amplifier Is an Embarrassment of Riches

The flagship of NAD's extraordinarily high-value, higher-performance Classic Series, the modular-designed C 388 integrated amplifier escorts a suite of music-streaming options – including high-resolution playback via its BluOS capability – into your house. Outputting a continuous 150Wpc, the ruthlessly efficient C 388 touts a customized Hypex UcD output stage in fully balanced configuration and massive power supply to unveil the finite details, rich tones, and quick transients critical to audiophile sound. You'll delight in the embarrassment of options that accommodate a host of sources. An RIAA-equalized MM phono preamplifier, powerful headphone amplifier, analog line inputs, and two MDC slots for upgrades (like BluOS, which can give you both MQA capability and Roon software organization) come standard. Plus, in the drop-down menu above, selecting the MDC BluOS 2i module option will give you instant streaming, Apple AirPlay 2, Amazon voice control, and more. Add on a USB port, aptX Bluetooth support, S/PDIF coaxial and optical inputs, and a remote, and C 388 is prepared for practically anything. 100% Music Direct Guaranteed.

Loaded With High-Grade Components and Options

From low-noise circuits to precise volume control, to accurate channel balance and proper input and output impedance characteristics, C 388 has you covered. You also get a MM phonostage with precisely accurate RIAA equalization, high overload margins, extremely low noise, and an innovative circuit to suppress infrasonic noise present on all LPs. The line inputs accommodate all kinds of analog source components by offering ideal input impedance characteristics with linear, ultra-low-noise buffer amplifiers to prevent sonic degradation caused by inappropriate loading of the source device. A separate headphone amplifier with low output impedance and high output voltage capability also comes standard, as do low-impedance line outputs that can connect to subwoofers.

Power to Spare, Hypex UcD Output Stage

NAD has moved away from the old-fashioned linear power supplies and Class AB output stages that waste energy. Its instead developed better-performing circuits based on switch mode power supplies and Class D output stages. Once thought to be inferior to traditional topologies, NAD's advanced work in this area has created some of the best-performing amplifiers regardless of design principle. These new designs are very linear over a wide bandwidth and provide consistent performance into all speaker loads. C 388's power supply is capable of 400 watts continuously and over 1,000 watts instantaneously to allow for short-term musical transients. It can operate with any AC mains voltage from 100 to 240 volts and provides pure DC power to all the various stages of the C 388. This highly efficient supply also provides near-perfect regulation of voltage across a wide range of conditions and provides a solid noise-free foundation for the amplifying stages. C 388 also uses a customized version of the proven Hypex UcD output stage operating in a fully balanced bridge configuration. This allows for massive power with nearly unmeasurable distortion and noise in the audible range.

Optional MDC BluOS 2i Module

Effortlessly add high-resolution audio, network streaming, and expert control to your NAD C 388 integrated amplifier with the BluOS 2i module. (Apple AirPlay 2 also comes standard, and works with C 368 and C 388.) Designed to slide into one of the MDC slots on your component, the wire-free device features a powerful ARM Processor for quick, responsive experiences. Both Ethernet and Wi-Fi operate in asynchronous mode for ultra-low-jitter performance and allow connection to music stored anywhere on your local network – or streamed directly from the Internet using popular music services like Spotify Connect, TIDAL, and TuneIn. You can also play music from a USB drive or hard drive via the USB A port. Integrated aptX Bluetooth is also natively integrated so you can wirelessly connect to any smartphone, tablet, or Bluetooth-enabled device within range. For added convenience, you can add the BluOS Voice Skill inside the Amazon Alexa app and enjoy hands-free voice control of personal music collections, streaming services, and more using a list of simple streamlined commands. And, while the expected functions of Play/Pause/Skip are present, BluOS also brings all of your music together, integrating locally stored music (like iTunes) and music streaming services. Moreover, playlists can be created and managed right inside the BluOS App. Gapless playback is also supported and the BluOS-2 module is fully compatible with Bluesound multi-room players to form integrated whole-house systems.

Modular Construction Gives You Future-Proof Security: Get MQA, Roon, and Much More

Modular Design Construction (MDC) allows you to customize C 388 with additional capabilities and features, now or in the future. The two available MDC slots accommodate a variety of upgrade modules – including MQA capability, Roon software, 4K video capable HDMI switching, additional digital inputs, additional analog and phono Inputs, and multi-room wireless BluOS music management system. BluOS connects to your network and is controlled via smartphone, tablet, or desktop to manage your music collection and connect you to high-quality streaming music services.

aptX Bluetooth Just the Beginning of Superior Connectivity

You can connect instantly to the aptX-enabled C 388 with Bluetooth, allowing you to stream music from any Bluetooth-enabled device. Bluetooth can also be used to listen to other sources connected to C 388 via wireless headphones. NAD's control app allows your smartphone or tablet to control all functions of C 388. Adding the optional BluOS Module provides access to your local area network via Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet connection, adding high-res audio streaming.BluOS also makes the C 388 a single-zone streamer in a complete multi-room wireless music system.
