Description

"Magic Ether": EMT 128 Phono Preamplifier Offers All-Tube Amplification, Innovative Anti-Vibration System, and Advanced Airflow

Stereophile said it best, praising the 128’s performance for its “mesmerizing transparency” and “that magic ether that only the best tube-based phono preamps produce.” With a chassis milled out of one solid aluminum block, integrated input and output transformers, and six sub-miniature Raytheon 5784B tubes originally made for use in U.S. missile systems, this 26.5-pound component is in every way deserving of the “Precision” moniker printed on its faceplate.

EMT engineers crafted the 128 to incorporate innovative anti-vibration technology, as well as an advanced airflow design for cool, quiet performance. The preamp’s gain is 64dB (nominal)/70dB (maximum), while its Signal to Noise ratio is >70dB.

On the front panel, there are four toggle switches (including one for stereo/mono), and the back panel has a pair RCA inputs and a pair of balanced (XLR) outputs.

You can audition the ultra-sleek, 26.5-pound EMT 128 phono preamp with the confidence and peace of mind that come with the 100% Music Direct Satisfaction Guarantee. Music Direct audio consultants are happy to answer any questions you have about tube amplification, replacement tubes, or upgrading your system.

"The 128 combines an essentially neutral timbral balance with pristine and seemingly unlimited high-frequency extension and glorious transient clarity that resolves fine detail, free of spotlighting. The tubes provide a kiss of pleasing harmonic structure, especially in the midrange — [delivering] welcome warmth without thickness or veil."
—Michael Fremer, Stereophile
