The Audio-Technica AT-LP2022 Fully Manual Belt-Drive Turntable Sounds as Good (and Transparent) as It Looks

You've likely never seen a turntable like the Audio-Technica AT-LP2022. This fully manual belt-drive design sounds just as great as it looks — no small achievement. Commemorating the company's 60-year anniversary, it features a Shibata stylus and carbon-fiber tonearm to help deliver playback marked by precision, clarity, dynamics, and warmth. The crystal-clear appearance can be said to symbolize the hallmarks of this 'table's performance — transparent, neutral, lifelike, coloration-free.

Looking directly at AT-LP2022, you’ll immediately notice the 30mm-thick, high-density, clear acrylic chassis that reduces resonances and meshes with any decor. It works in conjunction with a motor speed-sensor system that maintains accurate platter rotation (33.3RPM and 45RPM) and a transparent acrylic platter. Height-adjustable feet keep the turntable stable and ensure steady, reliable operation.

Given this is an Audio-Technica rig, you’d expect excellence from the clear-body Shibata stylus. It picks up ultra-high frequencies that invite you to experience nuances you may have never heard on your favorite recordings. The stylus is also easily interchangeable with the elliptical stylus that comes installed on the supplied AT-VM95EBK cartridge. Plus, adjustable vertical tracking angle (VTA) and dynamic anti-skate control mean that you can pair AT-LP2022 with a wide variety cartridges. An RCA stereo cable, 45 RPM adapter, a removable hinged dust cover also come standard.

Shibata Stylus

The Shibata stylus is easily interchangeable with the 0.3mil x 0.7mil elliptical stylus AT-VMN95EBK that comes installed on the included cartridge. (Four additional VM95 stylus types — conical, SP conical, elliptical nude, and Microlinear — are available separately.)

About Audio-Technica

In the early 1960s at Tokyo's Bridgestone Museum of Art, curator Hideo Matsushita enjoyed hosting LP-listening events, where many attendees first heard vinyl records played on premium, high-quality equipment. Matsushita was inspired by the positive reactions of his guests, but he was frustrated that the expense of high-fidelity gear prevented many people from enjoying great sonics at home.

In 1962, Matsushita founded Audio-Technica with the goal of producing accessible, high-quality audio for a wide audience. And while pursuing this goal, he soon created a truly affordable phono cartridge, the AT-1, in the company's small flat in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Sixty years later, Audio-Technica continues to extend its legacy in the audiophile world, designing critically acclaimed headphones, turntables, cartridges, and microphones, as well as commercial audio gear. Audio-Technica remains dedicated to the mission of making high-quality audio accessible to everyone.
