Unlike Any Other Turntable: British-Built SME Model 6 Features Polymer-Resin Chassis, Outboard Electronic Speed Control, M2-9 Tonearm, and Near Plug-and-Play Operation
Crafted to SME's renowned standards, the U.K.-built Model 6 blends traditional analog engineering with modern, technically advanced materials to create an integrated turntable unlike any other on the market. Featuring a CNC-machined polymer-resin chassis that accounts for terrific resonance absorption, an outboard electronic speed control with fine pitch adjustment, and a chrome-finished M2-9 tonearm with a removable headshell, Model 6 proves a breeze to set up and operate. Once it's running, prepare for playback elevated by remarkable composure, well-proportioned soundstages, measured balances, and insightful transparency.
Able to play at 33 and 45RPM, the belt-driven Model 6 comes with a printed strobe disc that further accounts for its seemingly infinite, ultra-precise adjustability. True to SME heritage, Model 6 also arrives equipped to defeat external vibrations. In addition to the groundbreaking aforementioned chassis, the main bearing and arm assembly guard against external energy via a vibration-absorbing silicone-based rubber compound stemming from the aerospace industry. For extra protection, it is also employed inside the plinth and on the chassis feet.
Another benefit of Model 6: Near plug-and-play operation. Because the tonearm gets pre-mounted at the factory, all you need to after unboxing is to place the rig on a level platform, hook it up to a preamplifier, attach the belt, acrylic platter, and a cartridge of your choice, and you're ready to spin LPs. Once you do, prepare for a level of focus, imaging, layering, clarity, attack, and accuracy that will have you feeling like a kid again. 100% Music Direct Satisfaction Guaranteed.
"You should check out the Model 6 before you buy anything else. SME's latest entry is a complete success. The more I used it, the more I enjoyed its open, airy sound and its solid bottom end."
– Michael Fremer, Stereophile
"There's plenty of agility here and an appealingly understated manner. This isn't a deck that stomps its character all over the music. This SME, like others we've heard, prefers to put the recording in the spotlight. It's this transparency that pushes the Model 6 into the class-leading group at this level. We love its taut, wonderfully precise bass performance and the way it sounds so consistent throughout the whole frequency range."
– What Hi-Fi?, five-star review
Model 6 is equipped with an improved version of the highly acclaimed SME M2-9 tonearm with an impressive cartridge weight range capacity of two to 12 grams and suitably designed for both MM and MC cartridges. The turntable chassis is CNC machined from a unique polymer high-density resin material that provides a high mass, small footprint, and superb resonance absorption. Main bearing, spindle, and drive pulleys are precision made to the same exact standards as all SME high-end turntables. In addition, Model 6 comes with a new-generation highly sophisticated electronic speed control unit that delivers fine pitch speed adjustment within a wide band range.
