Description

Dexter Gordon Body And Soul on 180g LP from ORG Music

Dexter Gordon is considered to be the first musician to translate the language of bebop to the tenor saxophone. A gig in 1962 at Ronnie Scott's Club in London was a new experience for Dexter and he began to travel and work in Europe. Eventually, he settled in Copenhagen where he lived until his return to the U.S. in 1976. During that period, he traveled extensively, worked for long periods at the historic Jazzhus Montmartre and recorded for European labels as well as Prestige Records.

This excellent 1967 date was one of the handful of releases culled from his performances at Jazzhus Montmartre and it finds Gordon at the top of his game working in a fine quartet rounded out by Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen (bass), Kenny Drew (piano) and Albert 'Tootie' Heath (drums). Body And Soul, originally released on Black Lion, includes essential extended takes on such well chosen material as "Like Someone in Love," "Come Rain or Come Shine," "There Will Never Be Another You," "Body and Soul" and "Blues Walk."

After being out of press on vinyl for almost three decades and just shy of fifty years after the performance was recorded, Dexter Gordon's Body And Soul finally receives the audiophile treatment it deserves with this 180-gram vinyl reissue from ORG Music, pressed at Pallas in Germany.
