In 1997, the Gothenburg Symphony was appointed as the National Orchestra of Sweden. "The sound is superb. The balance is natural and lifelike, the strings are richly sonorous in sustained writing, beautifully transparent and light the pianissimo passages; the winds are expertly placed and not spot lit and the brass and percussion have splendid body and depth. The playing throughout is as committed as one could wish: the orchestra which Nielsen often visited in the early part of the century have this music in their blood. They give of their best for Neeme Järvi." – Gramophone
