Gene Ammons Boss Tenor on Hybrid SACD
Prestige Stereo Reissue Series from Analogue Productions!
Cut from the Original Analog Master Tapes by Kevin Gray!
Also Available on 200g LP
For nearly a quarter-century, tenor saxophonist Gene Ammons was among the most accomplished artists in the Prestige fold. Whether leading, or partaking in, one of Prestige’s jam sessions, immersing himself in the organ-dominated blues and gospel grooves that came to be called “soul jazz,” or digging deep for impassioned ballads, Ammons was forever versatile and consistently masterful.
This 1960 date for the label finds Ammons as the lone horn fronting a rhythm section that includes Tommy Flanagan (piano), Doug Watkins (bass), Art Taylor (drums) and Ray Barretto (congas). Featuring a program that encompasses the blues, ballads, Charlie Parker's "Confirmation," and Eddie Heywood's "Canadian Sunset," Ammons is indeed the 'Boss' of his instrument and then some here!
Part of the ultimate audiophile Prestige stereo reissue series from Analogue Productions featuring 25 of the most collectible, rarest, most audiophile-sounding Rudy Van Gelder recordings ever made! All titles will be mastered from the original analog master tapes by Kevin Gray and will be issued on both Hybrid SACD and 200g LP.
