Lou Donaldson Sunny Side Up on Hybrid SACD
In the late-'50s and early-'60s, saxophonist Lou Donaldson recorded primarily with his own quartet that included pianist Herman Foster or with organ trios. Occasionally, he'd break the mold as he did on 1960's Sunny Side Up which is strictly a hard bop affair. Joined by trumpeter Bill Hardman and pianist Horace Parlan, tracks like "Hardman's Politely," "Softly As In A Morning Sunrise" and "The Man I Love" find Lou and company digging deep into their bop roots.
