Peter, Paul And Mary In The Wind on Numbered Limited Edition Hybrid SACD from Audio Fidelity
In the Wind was so successful that when it hit No. 1 on the Billboard album charts, it caused Peter, Paul And Mary's two previous albums to re-enter the Top 10 as well. The album was released in December 1963, a few months before the arrival of the Beatles heralded the British Invasion. At this point in musical history the folk music revival was in full bloom.
The trio's third recording was one of the group's stronger outings...in particular, this record was essential to boosting the profile of Bob Dylan. The lead-off single of Dylan's "Blowin' In the Wind" became world famous when it sold a phenomenal 300,000 copies in the first week of release. On July 13, 1963 it reached No. 2 on the Billboard pop chart with sales exceeding one million copies. At the 1964 Grammy Awards, their recording of "Blowin' In the Wind" won the Best Folk Recording and Best Performance by a Vocal Group. Other highlights include their gorgeous interpretation of Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" as well as spirituals, a lullaby, and even a Civil War ballad.
The vocals on In The Wind are sublime, emotional, beautiful and dazzling - all at the same time. As always Paul and Peter's guitar work is also extraordinary (as is the bass work of Edgar deHaas). The songs they chose to record for this album are sung with conviction and testimony. When this LP reached No. 1 in 1963 it was only weeks after John F. Kennedy's assassination, the folk movement was in full swing...and something was definitely in the air - or rather In the Wind!
This numbered limited edition Hybrid SACD version of Peter, Paul And Mary's In The Wind from Audio Fidelity has been mastered for the format and is compatible with both CD and SACD players.
