The Band Moondog Matinee on Limited Edition Japanese Import SHM-SACD
Legendary Canadian-American roots-rock group The Band was a musical institution unlike anything that came before them or since. In the 1960s, they were initially brought together as The Hawks by Ronnie Hawkins and later gained international recognition as Bob Dylan’s backing band on his groundbreaking electric tours.
However, it was the original material Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, Garth Hudson and Levon Helm recorded as The Band such as "The Weight," "The Night They Drove Ol’ Dixie Down," "Up On Cripple Creek," "Life is a Carnival," "The Shape I’m In," "Don't Do It," "It Makes No Difference," "Tears of Rage," "Stage Fright" and "Ophelia" that turned them into the highly respected icons they remain to this day.
1973's Moondog Matinee served as The Band's fifth full-length effort, a fine 10-track covers album of traditional R&B and rock & roll standards reminiscent of their days as The Hawks. Featuring first-rate takes on material by Clarence "Frogman" Henry ("Ain't Got No Home"), Chuck Berry ("The Promised Land"), Fats Domino ("I'm Ready") and Sam Cooke ("A Change Is Gonna Come") plus standards like "Mystery Train" and "The Great Pretender." Although it appeared to be just a nice trip down memory lane, band turmoil was largely responsible for the lack of originals here.
SHM-SACD (Super High Material SACD) is the ultimate Super Audio CD that utilizes the materials and technologies that were developed for the SHM-CD to further enhance the audio-resolution. These discs are made with polycarbonate developed for the screen of the liquid crystal display. As it has a higher transparency, players can read the signal more faithfully. Also, it excels in fluidity, which enables you to cast a more accurate pit. What works wonders for a low resolution format such as CD should offer even greater sonic improvements in a real high resolution format such as SACD.
• 2-channel Single Layer SACD
• Two-channel SACD layer only, to secure enough reflectance and not to compress DSD file
• Label of the disc is printed with a special green ink called 'Onsho Shiyou,' which minimizes diffuse reflection
• Carefully selected master audio is used, from existing DSD files to newly converted from analog tapes
• This disc will ONLY work on a Super Audio Disc Player
