With an intoxicating, genre-blending sound, provocative and uncompromising songs, and the mesmerizing power of singer Jim Morrison's poetry and presence, The Doors had a transformative impact not only on popular music but on popular culture. Morrison's mystical command of the frontman role may be the iconic heart of The Doors, but the group's ability to navigate any musical territory with aplomb from baroque art-rock to jazz-infused pop to gutbucket blues, was equally as responsible for their success.
The Best Of The Doors compilation was released by the group in 1973. The album was originally issued in the CD-4 QuadraDisc, Quadraphonic 8-Track and reel-to-reel tape formats and later reissued in standard stereo. This is the first time in 40 years the Quad masters are being released. The stereo songs in The Best Of The Doors have been taken from the original two-track masters of the eight albums they recorded between 1967 and 1971.
Three of the band’s studio albums - The Doors (1967), L.A. Woman (1971), and Strange Days (1967) - were featured on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
