– Sound + Vision
From its all-metal and compact design, 551R v2 boasts a multitude of connections while elevating the audio potential of Blu-ray players, video streamers, satellite boxes, iPod docks, games consoles, and source components. The ability to provide great sound as well as all the latest processing is the ultimate test of any home-theater receiver. With seven 110Wpc capable channels (measured at 6 ohms), 551R v2 delivers movie soundtracks, TV dialog, and music with heart-rustling power, punch, and dynamics.
Driven by a low-flux toroidal transformer, seven discrete amplifiers are separated from the processing and input stages to ensure uncompromising performance. And because typical home-theater setups now include a multitude of sources with digital audio connections, special attention is given to 551R v2's DAC process, giving it the ability to maximize the sonic potential of digital devices such as Blu-ray players, satellite boxes, iPod docks, games consoles, and more.
While musical performance remains at the heart of 551R v2, it offers the most current Cirrus Logic DSPs and support for the latest CODECs such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio. A Faroudja 1080p video scaler vastly improves performance from lower-resolution TV broadcasts and DVDs, and transcodes analog video inputs to the digital domain for simpler and neater connection to the TV.
In terms of connectivity, 551R v2 boasts four HMDI inputs and a single HDMI output that fully supports 3DTV/Deep color pass-through and Audio Return. It also features a wide selection of analog video connections (ready for transcoding), four digital audio connections, and a six analog audio inputs. A host of processing and adjustment features help get the most from every multi-channel movie soundtrack. These include full individual crossover adjustment and bass management, lip sync adjustment, Dolby Dynamic range control, and DTS-HD speaker re-map.
To guarantee simple setup, Cambridge Audio's Microphone Controlled Auto Set-up (CAMCAS) tailors the 551R v2's performance to any room and comes complete with a microphone to complete this simple procedure. Day-to-day operation is equally straightforward, and performed from either the clear front-panel controls or supplied remote. A patented cooling system, X-Tract, yields a perfectly balanced combination of forced cooling and natural convection to effectively draw heat away from the substantial transformer and output stages, allowing 551R v2 to operate extremely quietly and at a low temperature.
