Space Constraints Are No Problem with the ELAC Uni-Fi UB5: Designed
by Andrew Jones, High-Value Bookshelf Loudspeaker Features Concentric
Drivers, Provides Remarkable Audiophile Sound
The hit of the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, the ELAC Uni-Fi UB5 bookshelf loudspeaker
laughs at the sonic compromises often wrought by space constraints.
Loaded with the same groundbreaking driver and crossover components used
in its bigger brother, Uni-Fi UF5, this Andrew Jones-designed
compact monitor provides remarkable audiophile sound while fitting in
places off-limits to tower models. The high-value Uni-Fi UB5 also
makes for an outstanding surround-sound speaker. Anchored by an
in-house-developed concentric driver – a trait uncommon in models in
this price range – Uni-Fi UB5 plays with stellar precision,
coherency, and responsiveness. Your music will sound more natural,
smooth, fluid, and lifelike. In Uni-Fi UB5, a one-inch soft-dome
tweeter and rigid, four-inch aluminum midrange cone account for
excellent directivity, power handling, and dynamics. A 5.25-inch woofer
delivers taut bass, while top-tier components reside in a crossover that
lends to seamless, smooth integration between lows and highs.
Internally braced cabinets add stiffness and reduce resonance, while
magnetically attached grilles give you the option of either seeing or
concealing the drivers. As for Music Direct's exclusive walnut finish?
Absolutely timeless. It also looks great in black. Our 100% Money-Back Guarantee takes care of the rest. ELAC and Andrew Jones have done it again.
Usually Only Found in Costlier Designs: Custom-Made Concentric Driver
Just like they do in the larger Uni-Fi UF5, in Uni-Fi UB5, the delicacy
of a one-inch soft-dome tweeter and harmonic accuracy of a rigid
four-inch aluminum midrange cone come together in a sonic symphony.
Positioning the tweeter concentrically within the midrange voice coil
achieves a uniform directivity pattern, for flat frequency response and
formidable power handling, along with enhanced imaging for both on- and
off-axis listening positions.
Stellar Frequency Response Via Three-Way Design and 5.25-Inch Woofer
ELAC realizes a three-way speaker offers many advantages. In assigning
dedicated drivers to high, mid- and bass frequencies, each is optimized
for the frequency range for which its design and material composition is
best suited. A three-way speaker complement also allows for a more
straightforward crossover and cabinet design, eliminating costly
solutions. By using aluminum for the woofer, resonances that affect the
linearity of common paper cones are placed beyond the driver's operating
frequency range. An extended-size magnet with vented pole piece
increases power handling for accurate, clean, and powerful reproduction
of bass frequencies.
High-End Cabinets and Five-Way Binding Posts
Every Uni-Fi UB5 enclosure is engineered with thick MDF outer walls and a
luxurious finish. The cabinets and the channel incorporate specially
designed internal bracing to add stiffness and strength to the cabinet's
outer walls. This bracing greatly reduces cabinet vibration, which
causes unwanted coloration to the sound. Custom-designed binding posts
provide flexibility for speaker wire connections and ensure optimal
electron transfer from speaker cables to the speaker.
